I went to Wikipedia to get a list of women-directed films beginning in the 1800's. Out a list that numbered in the high-hundreds, I have seen exactly six films directed by women: Triumph of the Will (a masterpiece, given the time and technology, I own a copy), Hitch-hiker directed by Ida Lupino (Noir is my genre, so I own a copy of it, too), Mama Mia, Virgin Suicides, Swept Away and She Devil. I walked out on four others: Orlando, Prince of Tides, Monster, and Shrek. None of the last eight I've listed would I waste my money to watch again. As for the rest on the long list, I didn't pay attention to which sex directed the films. I jst had no interest in seeing them.

I was an extra in Agnieszka Hollands The Third Miracle. I was in the same room with Ed Harris. But, the highlight was talking to Ms. Holland in a break, about Kieslowski. Memorable.

I like Beeban Kidrons' Used People. I was an extra for a few days and got to be inches from Shirley Maclean. I chatted with Sylvia Sidney, Kathy Bates, and Marcello Mastroianni. I brushed up against Marcia Gay Hardin. It does'nt get better than that.

It's a toss up between Meek's Crossing and First Cow by Kelly Reichardt for narrative films.

Although, honestly, for me the queen is Agnes Varda and my favorite is The Gleaners and I...though I just love all of her work.
